Fluoride Recommendations
Cavities are an infectious disease that can affect children's overall health.
Our LiLiKiWi organic toothpastes, formulated with fluoride in line with UFSBD recommendations, effectively protect teeth while respecting sensitive gums.
The Hidden Secrets of Other Organic Toothpastes
Some organic toothpastes still contain irritating sulfates, dyes or clays that can release heavy metals, or preservatives that disrupt oral flora and the nervous system. Others add allergens, fluoride that is too weak, or even sugar—an ineffective and risky cocktail for children's teeth.
Why Choose LiLiKiWi?
Most organic toothpastes contain at least 2% synthetic products, including sodium benzoate. In case of overdose, the latter can become NEUROTOXIC for children
Most organic toothpastes contain mineral dyes or clays. The risk of contamination by natural heavy metals is often not controlled
Most brands offer tubes or pump bottles, but nothing is really designed to motivate children to brush their teeth.
At LiLiKiWi, we invented the world's first pen-shaped toothpaste
Frequently Asked Questions About Fluoride and Our Toothpastes
From what age should children's toothpaste be used?
As soon as the first tooth appears! Even toddlers can (and should) brush their teeth with appropriate toothpaste containing 1000 ppm fluoride.
Before 2 years old, brushing is done by an adult; between 2 and 6 years old, the child learns independently under supervision.
Which toothpaste should I choose based on my child's age?
The fluoride dosage depends on age and caries risk:
- 6 months – 2 years: 1000 ppm toothpaste, soft texture, allergen-free.
- 3 – 6 years: 1000 ppm toothpaste, fruity flavor to encourage use.
- 6 – 12 years: 1000 to 1450 ppm toothpaste, depending on cavity history.
👉 LiLiKiWi formulas strictly follow the recommendations of the UFSBD and CEOP.
How much toothpaste should I put on my toothbrush?
Before 2 years: a smear of toothpaste
From 3 to 6 years: a pea-sized amount.
After 6 years: along the entire length of the toothbrush.
And most importantly: spit out the excess, but do not rinse!
💡 This way, fluoride continues to protect tooth enamel after brushing.
What flavours motivate children to brush their teeth?
At LiLiKiWi, we combine taste and effectiveness!
We collaborate with a Parisian pastry chef to create dual-flavoured toothpastes, inspired by macarons:
- Raspberry–Lychee
- Apple–Pear
- Vanilla–Banana
100% natural, organic food-grade, sugar-free flavours that transform tooth brushing into a sensory game — and dental plaque into a mere extra.
Is fluoride dangerous for children?
No. At recommended doses (0.05 mg/kg/day), fluoride is safe for health and for the brain.
Alarmist studies concern exposures far higher than those found in children's toothpastes.
Does fluoride cause teeth stains?
😬Only in case of excessive intake. Fluorosis appears if a child consumes too much fluoride before the age of 6.
Age-appropriate dosing completely avoids this risk.
Why is fluoride essential?
It strengthens the enamel, blocks bacteria, and fixes calcium to the tooth.
It's the best at-home anti-cavity shield!
Can my child use fluoride mouthwash?
Yes, but only after 6 years of age, under parental supervision.
Is adult toothpaste suitable for children?
🚫 No!
Adult toothpastes are too abrasive and contain too much fluoride (often 1450 ppm or more).
However, baby teeth are much more fragile: excessive abrasion can prematurely wear down the enamel.
Furthermore, the synthetic menthol flavors or essential oils used in adult formulas are too strong and unsuitable for young children.
Small children need a gentle, safe, and tailored product, like LiLiKiWi toothpastes:

First Milk Teeth: Milk teeth grow, shine… and sometimes grind with curiosity! This is the ideal time to establish good hygiene habits from an early age. According to UFSBD recommendations, as soon as the first tooth appears, it is advisable to use a fluoride toothpaste with 1000 ppm, in a very small amount: just a smear, equivalent to a grain of rice. This dosage effectively protects against infant cavities, without risk in case of accidental ingestion. Our Raspberry-Lychee LiLiKiWi toothpaste is perfectly suited from 1 year old. Autonomy grows like permanent teeth Around 5 years old, the first permanent teeth begin to emerge: it is essential to continue fluoride protection while guiding the child towards autonomy. The dosage remains at 1000 ppm of fluoride, in accordance with UFSBD recommendations. The quantity, however, increases slightly: a pea-sized amount is enough for effective brushing twice a day. This is the age of the famous "I'll do it myself!", but always under the watchful eye of mom or dad. The Apple-Pear and Vanilla-Banana flavors make this stage even more joyful.
Children's Toothpaste 6 – 12 years
The transition to adult dosage From 6 years old, permanent teeth gradually replace milk teeth: this is a key stage where enamel strengthens and good habits become long-lasting. According to UFSBD recommendations, the fluoride level can vary between 1000 and 1450 ppm: For children at low risk of cavities, a 1000 ppm toothpaste remains sufficient for daily protection; For children at higher risk (history of cavities, sugary diet, sensitive family background), a 1450 ppm toothpaste is recommended to strengthen enamel.* LiLiKiWi supports children at low risk of cavities with its Apple-Pear and Vanilla-Banana toothpastes
