Which treatment to choose for my child allergic to everything?

Which treatment to choose for my child allergic to everything?

Very often, in allergic children, the eviction of food allergens is not enough. Did you know that allergens are also hiding in lotions, creams and lavish products? Allergens are responsible for many skin reactions. We give you tips to help you choose the right care product for your little allergic.

First of all, what is a skin allergy?

A skin allergy is not harmless, when the child has an allergy, it can result in very diverse pathological signs. Contact eczema, erythema, dermatitis, dermatoses, or in the most serious case, asthma or anaphylactic shock.

Technically, this is a clinical manifestation linked to an inappropriate immune response in the presence of the allergen.

To schematize, a allergen, natural or synthetic, in the shower or cream gel, penetrates the corneal layer and is recognized by antibodies in the blood, which induces an immune response. Children's skin is ultra fine compared to that of an adult (article "The skin barrier of our children"). Allergens are more easily in contact with the antibody compared to an adult immune system.

Many cosmetic substances are part of the daily life of our little fun could be a source of allergy.

There are 26 allergens known in cosmetic regulations and also certain preservatives, UV filters, and many essential oils.

5 families of molecules in the care to be avoided for an allergic child.

The 26 known allergens

We can all be allergic to a particular substance, but for several years, some have known some whose allergening potential is particularly asserted in cosmetics.

It is precisely with the aim of warning and protecting people sensitive to allergenic molecules that cosmetic regulations provide that 26 of them from perfume, essential oil and/or plant extract are declared in the list of ingredients of a cosmetics. As soon as they are present at more than 0.01 % in the products to rinse (shower gel, shampoo, etc.) and more than 0.001 % in products without rinsing (lotion, cream, etc.), allergens are allergens are more often at the end of the ingredient list. The 3 most common and known of them are: Limonene, Linalool and Benzyl Alcohol.

Conservatives

Besides these 26 allergens ‘Officials‘, there are also powerful allergens in the conservative family. Such as the methodyllisothiazolinone (MIT) and its cousin methodylchlorisothiazolinone (MCIT) which are used to replace the parabens. But, very quickly, dermatologists found that they are very powerful allergens especially by mixing the two. In March 2014, the Consumer Safety Safety Committee (SCCS) prohibited the products to rinse.

There is also a preservative widely used in organic cosmetics, benzyl alcohol, itself is an allergen (super).

Essential oils

It is forbidden to use essential oils for children before 7 years old. But we advise not to use them before 18 years old. Essential oils are concentrates of nature, ultra powerful and therapeutic. But like all active substances, there are also harmful side effects. Essential oils are often, photosensitizing, their composition is often unstable. There is almost no essential oil without allergens. Essential oils and the child is a big "no" for us.

Organic solar filters

In other words, chemical solar filters, including benzophenone-1, 3 and 4. Benzophenone's family are universal and effective solar filters, but there are many allergic people at Benzophenone. In addition, it is a molecule which is responsible for the whitening of the corals (1).

Sulfates

Yes, we don't like sulfates (see article) The family of sulfate itself is not an allergen, but sulfates burn and disturb the skin barrier of children and promotes the penetration of allergens into the depths of the skin. Flee as quickly as possible!
